essential oils

Back to School

Can you believe we’re already half way through August?  Some schools are already back in session, most others will start in the next two to three weeks!  Coming quickly is the turning of leaves to reds ands yellows, pumpkin spice flavors (my favorite) and sweaters and jeans will replace shorts and tank tops.

With all this change, it’s important to stay above the wellness line. Today we’ll explore how to do this with essential oils.  I will continue the series next week with a discussion on vaccines and other wellness tips.

My information and photos are adapted from Tracy Black at dontmesswithmama.com

Wake Up

Have a hard time getting the kids (or yourself) going in the morning? Diffuse essential oils in your kids’ bedrooms or in the kitchen in the mornings before heading out to school.

Here are some morning diffuser favorites for kids:

Bergamot (which has a slight citrus scent) and Ylang Ylang (which smells amazing – like an exotic flower) are nothing short of joyous in the morning. Together, it’s like sunshine to start your day.

Speaking of joyous, Joy is another blend that’s a favorite to diffuse in the morning. It also has Bergamot and Ylang Ylang, as well as Lemon, Tangerine and Roman Chamomile.

Clarity (made with Basil, Rosemary and Peppermint) helps to promote a sense of clarity and alertness when diffused.

Motivation (made with Roman Chamomile, Spruce and Lavender) promotes feelings of action and accomplishment when diffused. This blend enhances the ability to move forward and in a positive direction. What a great way to start the day!

You can even make your own Wake-Up blend in a roll-on (again Bergamot and Ylang Ylang is fantastic). Just add your favorite carrier oil and put it in your kid’s backpack to use on the way to school.

PARENTS: You need your own wake-me-up blend too right? I don’t know about you but sometimes I feel like a zombie in the morning. That’s what En-R-Gee (made with Rosemary, Nutmeg, Black Pepper and Lemongrass) is for! It helps to uplift and energize. It’s a must-have oil blend for every busy parent.

First Day Jitters

Ease the transition with essential oils.

Here are some of my favorite oil blends:

Valor is one of my favorite blends – and a top seller with Young Living. It’s made with Spruce, Blue Tansy, Frankincense and Rosewood. Apply to wrists, bottom of feet, or diffuse to feel empowered and uplifted. NOTE: Valor is out of stock right now, but there’s Valor II available in the meantime). Apply topically to the bottom of the feet with a carrier oil or diffuse in the morning.

Transformation smells wonderful diffused or applied topically (dilute with V-6 or other carrier oil). It’s make with Lemon, Sacred Frankincense, Sandalwood and Peppermint to help replace negative beliefs with uplifting thoughts. Perfect for the first day of school, right?

Envision (made with Spruce, Orange, Geranium and Rose) helps to stimulate feelings of creativity and resourcefulness, while encouraging a renewed faith in the future. Apply this oil topically or diffuse and take the time to talk to your kids about the first day of school and what to expect.

White Angelica (made with Bergamot, White Angelica and Royal Hawaiian Sandalwood) promotes feelings of protection and security when diffused, and can be used to guard against negative energy. This is one of my favorite oil blends to diffuse too.

Tranquil is made with Lavender, Cedarwood and Roman Chamomile in a convenient roll-on that kids can take to school. It’s comforting aromas is perfect for the first day of school too. Apply to the wrists or back of the neck as needed. Keep this roll-on in your child’s backpack to use before school.

Focus

Does your child needs to stay focused during school or afterschool for a homework session? Try essential oils!

Here are some of my favorites:

Brain Power is a blend of essential oils high in sesquiterpenes – like Royal Hawaiian Sandalwood, Blue Cypress and Frankincense – to promote a sense of clarity and focus when used aromatically.

Clarity (made with Basil, Rosemary and Peppermint) helps to promote a sense of clarity and alertness when diffused.

Stress Away is the first to contain the unique stress-relieving combination of lime and vanilla pure, therapeutic-grade essential oils. Stress Away also includes copaiba and lavender to reduce mental rigidity and restore equilibrium. It also comes in a handy roll-on!

Kits to Try

The next collection of oils to try is the Golden Touch Kit. This is the kit to get if you have kids  – especially before the winter season starts up.

The Golden Touch kit includes seven 5 ml bottles of oil blends, including DiGize, EndoFlex, JuvaFlex, Melrose, Raven, RC, and Thieves. This kit is very economical at just $84.75 with a wholesale membership – that’s about $12 per bottle! Great deal, right?!

So how do you use the Golden Touch Kit? There are so many ways, but here are some suggested uses:

1. Raven is made with Ravintsara, Peppermint, Eucalyptus Radiata and other essential oils that are deeply soothing when applied to the chest and throat.
2. Thieves (made with Clove, Cinnamon Bark, Rosemary, Eucalyptus Radiata and Lemon) is a powerful blend that may help to support health immune function.
3. DiGize combines Tarragon, Ginger, Peppermint, Fennel, Lemongrass, Anise and Patchouli essential oils to support healthy digestion.

Another great one is the Thieves collection. If you’re new to Young Living, it’s just $150 for a limited time And it’s just $157.50 for existing members – AND I’ve got some ideas on how you use them to get your family ready for back-to-school time.

Here are some ideas to use the Thieves Starter Kit:

1. Pack Thieves Hand Purifier in your kids backpack to clean hands on the go.

2. Give a teacher a bottle of Thieves Spray to clean without chemicals in the classroom.

3. Use Thieves Mouthwash to soak retainers, mouth guards and other dental devices.

4. Clean desks and homework areas with Thieves Household Cleaner. And you’ve got an extra bottle so give the other one away as a teacher’s gift.

5. Put the Roller Fitment on the Stress Away essential oil blend and give to a teacher’s assistant or keep in the car to keep stress at bay when you’re on the go with the kids.

Kid Specific

Did you know Young Living has a collection of essential oils made specifically for kids?

The KidScents Oil Collection is an all-in-one kit of pure, natural alternatives that can help comfort children through the common ups and downs of childhood. This is a great kit to keep at daycare, grandparents’ home and, of course, your home too.

This kit includes six, mild essential oil blends, formulated just for children (and already diluted with carrier oils): GeneYus, Owie, Bite Buster, TummyGize, SniffleEase and SleepyIze.

NOTE: This kit is out of stock, but you can still order the individual oil blends (except Bite Buster). GeneYus is a must-have for my kids during homework time, and TummyGize is great to use before and after meals (pack it in your kid’s lunchbox).

Even when kids eat real food, they can use a little more help in getting all the nutrition they need. Young Living has a full line of nutritional supplements – all infused with essential oils and made with clean, wholesome ingredients.

Here are two nutritional supplements to use:

1. KidScents MightyVites deliver a full spectrum of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Designed to provide balanced nutrition, MightyVites use only nutrient-dense, whole-food sources like NingXia wolfberry, Orange cream and wild berry flavors.

Lunches are packed. But wait! What about those backpacks?

Don’t forget to pack these Young Living essentials:
1. Thieves Hand Purifier or Thieves Hand Spray to keep hands clean naturally.

2. Thieves Mints to keep breath fresh on the go.

3. TummyGize with a Roller Fitment to use before and after meals.

4. NingXia Red single packets to quench your child’s thirst without the sugar content of traditional juice boxes or sodas.

6. GeneYus with a Roller Fitment to use for homework time.

7. Valor Roll-On to use to feel empowered and uplifted.

8. KidScents lotion (made with shea butter, essential oils and MSM) to moisturize skin.

Be sure to check with the school to make sure essential oils can be packed in your child’s backpack.

End of the Day

At the end of the day, help your kids  to slow it down and relax before bedtime with essential oils. Maybe do some calming yoga or read a few favorite chapters from a favorite book.

Here are my favorite calming essential oil blends:

1. Peace & Calming is made with Tangerine, Ylang Ylang, Blue Tansy, Orange and Patchouli, and smells great when diffused. It can also be applied to the bottom of feet with V-6 or other carrier oil.

2. Tranquil is made with Lavender, Cedarwood and Roman Chamomile in a convenient roll-on that kids can take to school. It’s comforting aromas is perfect for the first day of school too. Apply to the wrists or back of the neck as needed.

3. Grounding is made with White Fir, Pine, Angelica, Spruce, Cedarwood, Juniper and Ylang Ylang. This balancing blend is excellent to diffuse at the end of the day or apply topically diluted with V-6 or other carrier oil.
I hope you’ve found something of use and will take it and enjoy Fall and live your balanced YingYang Life!
